Inspired by one of our Scriptures, when we explored the Ignatius Spiritual Exercises last fall, my friend Diana, painted this and later gifted it to me! It now hangs in my house together with another painting done by Diana, again inspired by a different contemplative exercise & Scripture from Choosing Christ in the World. These two paintings recently attracted the attention of visitors to my house and recent events have also reminded me about the time in my life when I clung to this verse and witnessed first-hand God’s daily provision; thus, it seems appropriate to dedicate this blog entry to Diana and also, share her insight into the Scripture (Matthew 6:25-34) that we studied the same week: “Things” become most important when we forget God’s promise to provide and our fears take over. Somehow God’s assurance to us that He will always provide and care for us is not enough. And as a result, nothing is ever “enough.” [I've retained Diana's italics & punctuation.]
Lectio Divina (daily lectio instructions): Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toll nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these… So do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will bring worried of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today. Matthew 6: 28, 29, 34.
Prayer: I pray for this grace: complete trust and freedom in Christ from anxiety or possessions, people, and worldly striving. Amen.
